WATAUGA COUNTY, N.C. – Blue Ridge Energy is using chain-saw wielding choppers to cut trees away from power lines.
Facebook is loaded up with videos of people wondering what's going on.
"We were just watching because it’s a helicopter and little kids love helicopters, but then when we saw that I started videotaping because I had no idea what that was," Boone resident Elise Sigmon says.
Ten rotating blades hang from a helicopter and is carefully maneuvered by the pilot.
"We have to maintain distances from structures and we are always looking for cow pastures and things like that for safety and people on the ground," blue ridge energy director of operations Robert Kent says.
They say it helps them get to some difficult terrain and keeps their workers out of the trees and keeps them from having to bring trucks on your property.
Small branches around five inches are left when the helicopter leaves and workers come back to clean it up.
So, if you see an eye in the sky, a few trees are getting some pruning that day.
