CHARLOTTE -- The state's department of transportation is creating a new citizens advisory group as they evaluate options for how to the handle the controversial Interstate 77 toll lane project.

Some of those options include the state taking over the project, modifying toll project and complete and delete.

Commissioners from the county say the group will have representatives appointed from Mecklenburg and Iredell counties, all the cities and towns in the interstate’s corridor along with members of the business community.

"Have a business perspective, economic development perspective and a livability perspective so this needs to come from people who run a business and are impacted by it daily and who live in the area," Mecklenburg County Commissioner Jim Puckett says.

NCDOT will ultimately make the final decision about what happens with the tolls projects.
