It is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The American Cancer Society estimates more than 297,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed this year. In North Carolina, there are more than 5,500 new cases each year.

This week we look at how despite the high numbers, long-term survival rates for breast cancer patients are up as new medical breakthroughs are happening all the time.
