A Waterville man is accused of intentionally starting a fire at an apartment last year, officials announced on Friday.
Waterville police and fire departments responded to the fire at 6 Front Place on May 4, 2024, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.
The fire was extinguished and no one was injured.
State fire marshal’s office investigators determined the fire was intentionally set on a second-floor porch outside the rear entrance of the apartment, according to Moss.
“Following an extensive investigation, authorities identified 31-year-old Elijah Yeaton of Waterville as a suspect,” Moss said. “Yeaton was known to the occupants of one of the apartments and was familiar with the residence.”
Yeaton was already in custody at the Kennebec County Jail for an unrelated incident, according to Moss. He was arrested and charged with attempted murder and arson on Feb. 20, following his indictment by a Kennebec County Grand Jury.
