HONOLULU — Head’s up for Oahu motorists, specifically for those in the Manoa area, as approximately 3,500 University of Hawaii at Manoa students move into student housing and the recently opened Residences for Innovative Student Entrepreneurs student housing facility on University Avenue starting Tuesday.
UH Manoa warns motorists of heavier than normal traffic around the Manoa campus on Dole Street, University Avenue, Metcalf Street, and the H-1 Freeway University Avenue off-ramps in both directions, according to a news release.
Moving in times are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Aug. 15, 16 and 18.
Signs will be in place, and traffic modifications are being planned to mitigate possible traffic.
Because of increased pedestrian traffic, vehicular traffic, lane closures and frequent slowing and stopping of cars, motorists are asked to be extra vigilant on Dole Street and University Avenue.
According to UH officials, there is a new check-in process for students moving into housing facilities:
- On Aug. 15 and 16, check-in will start at the Stan Sheriff Center before heading down to housing units on Lower Campus Road, Dole Street and East-West Road.
- On Aug. 18, there will be a drive-through check-in site on Lower Campus Road near the Air Force ROTC building before heading down to housing facilities.
- Students are asked to arrive at the campus at their assigned check-in time to prevent check-in backlogs and traffic delays. Those arriving early will not be able to proceed to their building until the assigned move-in time.
For students moving into the RISE facility on University Avenue, arrive at the assigned check-in time to prevent traffic delays.
Check the UH Student Housing Services website for additional move-in day information.
