HONOLULU — An all-around solid performance from the Hawaii baseball team allowed it to register a victory in a rare Thursday conference game.

With the first two games of a Big West series against UC Davis bumped up a day because of UH spring graduation on Saturday, the Rainbow Warriors jumped on the Aggies in the sixth inning to come back for a 5-3 win at Les Murakami Stadium.

Matt Wong broke the seal with an RBI single up the middle in the fifth, Kyson Donahue led off the sixth with a home run to center, his team-best seventh of the season, followed by the go-ahead two-run double from Dallas Duarte.

Harry Gustin went six innings with three runs, six hits and two walks allowed while striking out six to improve to 3-3 on the season. Harrison Bodendorf worked the last three innings without incurring serious damage to pick up his second save of the season.

Sixth-place UH (23-18, 12-10 BWC) absorbed series losses at UC Riverside and UC Irvine on the road over the last two weeks to knock it out of the conference title race, but coach Rich Hill reported team morale was good after its first game in its return home.

“That was a great team victory. Strong starting pitching, strong bullpen, great defense and timely hitting. That’s a recipe for a W,” Hill told the Spectrum Sports crew.

UC Davis dropped to 17-28 and 7-15 despite a first-inning two-run blast by catcher Jack Gallagher. Bryan Green (5-2) was tagged with the loss after being chased in the sixth.

Randy Abshier is set to get the ball for UH on Friday. Hill said Bodendorf could either start or close on Sunday.
