The Hawaii football team got a notable commitment for its 2024 class on Sunday from Bishop Gorman (Nev.) quarterback Micah Alejado, an Ewa Beach native who drew accolades for his junior season with the Gaels.

Alejado, a 5-foot-10 left-hander, threw for 3,575 yards and 54 touchdowns in leading the powerhouse Gaels to a 14-1 record in 2022, according to MaxPreps.com. He has been slotted as a three-star prospect by national recruiting outlets.

He put his commitment out on social media.

MaxPreps named Alejado its National Junior Player of the Year after he completed better than 75% of his passes. Among those who’ve received that award since 2009 are Deshaun Watson, Trevor Lawrence and Bryce Young.

In a game in September against Saint Louis at Mililani High, Alejado was 18-for-22 for 293 yards, five touchdowns and no interceptions in a 56-14 Gaels victory. He had only two picks the entire season and sat out the second half of many games as the Gaels blew out most of their opponents.

Bishop Gorman finished the season ranked No. 4 by MaxPreps. Three defensive players from the Nevada 5A state champions have already signed with UH: defensive lineman Aidan McComber, linebacker Jamih Otis and defensive back Elijah Palmer.

UH linebackers coach Chris Brown, Bishop Gorman’s former defensive coordinator, is a primary contact between the ‘Bows and the Gaels and a big reason why there were a dozen players from the islands on the Bishop Gorman roster in 2022.

UH’s lone signee at quarterback among the 2023 class was John-Keawe Sagapolutele. Returning starter Brayden Schager will be a junior for the upcoming 2023 season.
