HONOLULU — The University of Hawaii announced Friday a home-and-home series with Kansas that will not be fully realized for a decade.
UH will host the Jayhawks to open the 2028 season on Aug. 26, at what could be one of its first games at its new home venue, if the state’s timetable for a stadium replacement holds up.
The Rainbow Warriors will pay back the visit four years later and travel to Lawrence, Kan., for the first time in 2032. That is now the most distant future game on UH's schedule, and KU is the only Big 12 Conference team locked in with UH over the next decade.
The teams have met only once to date, a 33-27 KU win at Aloha Stadium on Aug. 31, 1985.
UH concluded its 2022 season with a 27-14 loss at San Jose State last week. Kansas started the season 5-0 — attaining its first Associated Press Top 25 ranking since 2009 — but dropped six of its last seven to finish 6-6.
UH’s nonconference schedule is full for 2023 and 2024. It has one opening in 2025 and 2028 and multiple openings in all other future seasons.
Last month, UH and Washington announced a game in Seattle in on Sept. 14, 2030.
The Rainbow Warriors will see New Mexico State in five of the next six seasons.
