HONOLULU — Planet Fitness will again offer a High School Summer Pass program to high school teens ages 14 to 19.
The program runs from June 1 through Aug. 31 and allows teens to work out for free at any of its locations.
Teens can sign up for the program at planetfitness.com/summerpass before gaining access to the club. Those under 18 must register with a parent or guardian online or in the club.
Announced in May, which coincides with Mental Health Awareness Month, the High School Summer Pass program encourages teens to prioritize their physical and mental health.
Planet Fitness officials said it's a perfect opportunity for teens to stay active during the summer break when many organized extracurricular activities are paused.
The American Heart Association found that only 25% of teens complete the recommended one hour of physical activity per day.
A recent Journal of the American Medical Association study found that physical fitness may help protect children and adolescents against developing depression, anxiety and, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder.
"As the leader in fitness with locations throughout the U.S. and Canada, Planet Fitness is proud to continue to invest in today's youth by providing free access to fitness during a critical time in their lives," said Craig Benson, interim chief executive officer at Planet Fitness. "Many teens continue to be impacted by the long-term mental health impacts from the pandemic, yet studies show that exercise can have a significant, positive impact on teens' overall wellness. We look forward to welcoming High School Summer Pass™ participants into our clubs to support them in their health and wellness journeys."
High School Summer Pass participants can also access free fitness training and free workouts designed specifically for high schoolers via its Planet Fitness App.
