WAIALUA, Hawaii — After a follow-up inspection and finding all critical food safety violations had been corrected, the Hawaii Department of Health Food Safety Branch issued Paalaa Kai Bakery a green placard on Tuesday.
Waialuaʻs Paalaa Kai Bakery received a red placard after a routine inspection on July 28 found several violations and follow-up inspections found continued violations, according to the Hawaii Department of Health.
Located at 66-945 Kaukonahua Rd., the bakery is operated by Haleiwa Supermarket. During a routine inspection on July 28, the DOH inspector found several violations, including:
- A handwash sink wasnʻt easily accessible and was being used for purposes other than handwashing.
- Bakery staff failed to monitor rapid cooling of potentially hazardous food.
- Potentially hazardous food being held above 41 F.
- Ready-to-eat potentially hazardous food not labeled with seven-day discard date.
- Non-food grade hose attached to the faucet in a three-compartment sink.
DOH conducted a follow-up inspection on Aug. 1 and another on Aug. 3, finding repeat and additional violations. The red “closed” placard on Thursday, according to a news release.
According to the DOH, the bakery will remain closed until all violations have been addressed.
