HONOLULU -- The color teal will illuminate Honolulu Hale from sundown on Monday, April 22, 2024, to sunrise on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the request of Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi to honor Sex Assault Awareness month in Hawaii.

Teal is the official color of sexual assault awareness.

The City and County of Honolulu is commemorating the month along with the Sex Abuse Treatment Center, a program of Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children.

The city is committed to raising awareness, supporting survivors and fostering a culture of prevention and intervention against sexual violence, according to a news release.

"In lighting Honolulu Hale in teal, we stand in solidarity with survivors and reaffirm our unwavering dedication to ending sexual violence in our community," said Blangiardi in the news release. "Through collective action, education, and support services, we strive to create a safer, more inclusive environment where everyone can thrive without fear of harm."

The SATC served over a thousand new sex assault clients last year and 47% of them were children.
