HONOLULU — The color purple will illuminate Honolulu Hale from sundown on Oct. 29 to sunrise on Nov. 4 per the request of Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi in recognition of the state’s Homeless Awareness Week.
“There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution to ending homelessness. It is a very complicated challenge,” said Blangiardi in a news release. “It is only through continued collaboration with other levels of government, nonprofits, and other community partners that we can create a system that meets the individual needs of our most vulnerable population.”
Blangiardi said there was still more work to be done, but that he is proud of the work done through the CORE team and the Department of Community Services. Launched in 2021, CORE stands for Crisis, Outreach, Response and Engagement, and is a program aimed at addressing homelessness on Oahu.
A statewide Homeless and Housing Conference will be held on Nov. 3 and 4. The conference is open to the public. To learn more and register, visit Hawaii Housing Affordability Coalition’s website.
