Ala Moana Regional Park won sixth place in the USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Award in the “Best City Park” category.

For the competition, a panel of experts submitted parks, including Ala Moana Regional Park, which were narrowed down by 10Best editors for the final set of 20 nominees for the Readers’ Choice Awards.

When Spectrum News Hawaii wrote about the contest in March, the Ala Moana Regional Park was in first place, but unfortunately, other top contestants beat out Oahu’s famed park.

The top five winners for the “Best City Park” category:

  1. Gathering Place in Tulsa, Okla.
  2. Golden Gate Park in San Francisco
  3. Forest Park in St. Louis, Mo.
  4. Wildwood Preserve Metropark in Toledo, Ohio
  5. Klyde Warren Park in Dallas, Texas

Ala Moana Regional Park is a 119-acre park. Currently, the Diamond Head-side bathhouse is undergoing renovations and is expected to reopen this month. DPR has also improved the park by planting 26 trees in October 2023 and renovating the McCoy Pavilion.

The USA Today 10 Best Readers' Choice Awards also nominated the Honolulu Zoo in the “Best Zoo” category. The results were revealed on March 15, with the Honolulu Zoo voted 4th best zoo in America.
