Ala Moana Regional Park is in the running for a USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Award in the Best City Park category.
The Department of Parks and Recreation is encouraging everyone to support the park by voting. The voting closes on April 8 at 7 a.m. Everyone can vote once per day.
Currently, the Ala Moana Regional Park is in first place. Other top contestants include Forest Park in Missouri, Klyde Warren Park in Texas and Wildwood Preserve Metropark in Ohio.
For the competition, a panel of experts submitted parks, including Ala Moana Regional Park, which were narrowed down by 10Best editors for the final set of 20 nominees for the Readers’ Choice Awards.
Ala Moana Regional Park is a 119-acre park. Currently, the Diamond Head-side bathhouse is undergoing renovations and is expected to reopen in April 2024. DPR has also improved the park by planting 26 trees in October 2023 and renovating the McCoy Pavilion.
The USA Today 10Best Readers' Choice Awards also nominated the Honolulu Zoo in the Best Zoo in America category. Voting closed on March 4 and the final results will be revealed on March 15.
