The Chan Zuckerberg Kauai Community Fund at the Hawaii Community Foundation awarded $1 million to 26 nonprofits on Kauai, according to a news release.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan started the Kauai-focused fund in 2019. The couple owns a vast estate on the island's north shore, with the first purchase of about 700 acres made in 2014 for an estimated $100 million. Over the last decade, the couple has purchased adjacent plots, more than doubling the size of the property and spending an additional $170 million on land and construction.

The Fund’s priority areas include education and youth, health and wellbeing, workforce development, affordable housing, and ʻāina and culture.

Each nonprofit that is a recipient of the award will be able to use the money as they think best fits their mission.
