HONOLULU — The City and County of Honolulu Department of Transportation Services announced ridership numbers for the first five days of regular fare operations on the Skyline rail service, and from Wednesday to Sunday, 18,329 people rode Skyline.

This is a significant drop following the five fare-free days from June 30 to July 4, when DTS reported 71,722 riders.

The ridership numbers for the initial five days of regular fare operations are:

  • Wednesday, July 5, 2023: 3,276 riders
  • Thursday, July 6, 2023: 3,203 riders
  • Friday, July 7, 2023: 3,397 riders
  • Saturday, July 8, 2023: 4,141 riders
  • Sunday, July 9, 2023: 4,312 riders

With school resuming in August, DTS expects the number of riders to grow.

DTS previously said they expect that Skyline's average weekday ridership will range between 8,000 and 10,000 passengers per day after a full year of service.
