KIHEI, Hawaii — The Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary’s visitor center reopened to the public after a five-year closure dedicated to a full redesign of the interior that features new interactive exhibits highlighting whale biology, research, disentanglement and the importance of the sanctuary, according to a news release.

The visitor center’s beachfront location is an ideal site to learn about the marine environment and view humpback whales during the November through April season when they come to mate, calve and nurse their young. It also has views of West Maui and neighboring Kahoolawe and Lanai.

Inside, visitors of all ages can engage in interpretive exhibits, interactive displays and weekly programs for the family.

The Sanctuary Visitor Center is located at 726 South Kihei Rd., Kihei. Hours are 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Reach the staff at 808-879-2818.
