HONOLULU — Honolulu Community College is providing an opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to explore career paths ranging from automotive technology to carpentry to fashion through its inaugural 2023 Summer CTE Academy.

The free six-week program offers students valuable hands-on experiences, providing tools to prepare them to enter college.

“This is a great opportunity for all high school students to learn career-focused skills training that will help them to start thinking about their next career steps," said Karen C. Lee, chancellor of Honolulu CC in a news release. "We are excited to offer this relevant and valuable summer program that will help students to plan for Hawaii's labor needs.”

The Summer CTE Academy will run from 8 a.m. to noon on weekdays from June 5 to July 14. Students can choose three different two-week program modules.

Programs include: automotive technology; carpentry technology; computing, security and networking technology; cosmetology; early childhood education; fashion technology; fire and environmental emergency response; music and entertainment learning experience; sheet metal and plastics technology; and welding technology.

Through the program, students will become familiar with the college environment, its resources and procedures, and evaluate their academic and life goals.

Center for Tomorrow’s Leaders will also provide leadership development training for all students designed to give them an advantage in whatever industry they choose to pursue.

Applications for the program are due by May 12 and are limited to the first 200 students to sign up.
