KAILUA — Lane closures on Monday, Jan. 24, will mean restricted traffic access to Lanikai and Kailua Beach park between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The closures are part of ongoing utility pole and overhead power line replacement work by Hawaiian Electric. Motorists are being asked to slow down, prepare for traffic delays and find alternative routes.

Kailua Road and S. Kalaheo Ave. will be open to local traffic only as crews work to replace the power lines around the Kalapawai roundabout. HECO noted in a press release that the work is being done as part of the city’s intersection improvement program.

Work had begun near the affected intersection — with single-lane closures — on Thursday and Friday as poles and necessary equipment were moved into the area.

HECO’s release noted that electronic message boards, safety signs, flagmen and special duty officers will be on-hand to provide direction and traffic control.
