Community leaders are urging everyone, not just parents and teachers, to become more active to help solve the problems with kids in the community.

Greg Jackson, the founder of Heal Charlotte, says it will take more to find solutions. He says kids need to have mentors, that are not related to them or their teachers on their sides, to teach them how to work through problems and find safe ways to mediate fights between each other.

"This is a perfect time for everyone to stop working in their silos and everyone to start pulling on each others resources to really get the youth the experiences they need to be positive citizens and productive citizens in Charlotte," says Jackson.

Jackson hopes through all the negativity within the schools lately, more people will be inspired themselves to get involved and help their communities.
