The Spurs have two picks in the first round at No. 4 and No. 8 and the Rockets have the No. 3 pick.

Last year, the Spurs selected 7-foot-4 French center Victor Wembanyama with the No. 1 pick in the draft, and he had quite the rookie season.

While the Spurs were nowhere close to a winning season with a 22-60 record, Wembanyama had a breakout rookie year leading the team in points, rebounds, steals and blocks. He capped off the season by winning Rookie of the Year by a unanimous vote and participating in the Rising Stars Challenge during the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend. He also finished second in voting for the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year.

Outside the court, Wembanyama–nicknamed Wemby or The Alien–grew his personal brand and established roots in Texas. He became an ambassador for Louis Vuitton and did commercials and promos for Texas’ beloved grocery chain, H-E-B.

For this year’s draft, the Spurs are expected to make selections to build around Wembanyama.

The team has four picks total, with its final two picks being at No. 35 and No. 48 in the second round.

The Spurs will host two official watch parties, one in San Antonio at Frost Plaza at The Rock at La Cantera and one in Austin at Bouldin Acres South in Austin. Both parties will kick off at 6 p.m.

The Rockets have two picks in this year’s draft at No. 3 and No. 44. The team got its No. 3 pick by trading James Harden to the Brooklyn Nets back in 2021.

According to NBA.com, the Rockets will be looking for a star at the 3-point range to add to its young core.

The Dallas Mavericks, who lost to the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals, do not have any picks in the first round, which likely means it won’t be until Thursday that the team will be on the clock. The team’s first and only pick is at No. 58, the last pick in the two-round draft, but they could trade up.

The NBA Draft begins Wednesday at 7 p.m. and then resumes at 3 p.m. Thursday. This is the first time the draft has been split into two days, and it will be available to watch in its entirety on ESPN.
