PLANO, Texas — They say money can’t buy happiness, but what about location? According to WalletHub, one Texas city ranks among the happiest.
In the 2025 WalletHub study, Plano is ranked 17th in the country for overall happiness.
WalletHub, a personal finance website, evaluated over 180 U.S. cities based on 29 key factors that contribute to happiness. These included emotional and physical well-being, income levels, community engagement and the quality of the local environment. Plano’s high scores across these categories set it apart as a model of contentment and well-being.
“Research shows that having more money only increases your happiness until you’re making at least $75,000 per year – anything more you earn likely won’t have an impact,” Chip Lupo, a Wallethub analyst, said. “Therefore, when deciding where to live to maximize your happiness, you’ll want to pick a city that offers more than just a decent average income. The ideal city provides conditions that foster good mental and physical health, like reasonable work hours, short commutes, good weather, and caring neighbors.”
Plano is a suburb of Dallas and has a low unemployment rate and offers residents access to many job opportunities in industries like technology, finance and health care. Wallethub noted its strong business sector has helped drive economic growth to create a happy community.
Austin, Texas, was the next city on the list, ranking 59th.
