TEXAS — The time has finally come. Grocery giant H-E-B has announced they are rolling out a digital tap-to-pay at their stores.

Starting Monday, the flagship stores in San Antonio will be among the first to interact with the new pay options, such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Google Pay, according to a press release.

The phased rollout will expand to locations across the state and will become available at groups of stores each day throughout the month. The digital pay services will also extend to Mi Tienda stores in Houston.

“At H-E-B, we’re always exploring a broad range of technologies to enhance how customers shop and pay for products,” said Ashwin Nathan, H-E-B Group Vice President of Marketing and Payments. “This has been one of the most requested services we have received from our customers and Partners, and we are excited to now make this popular technology available at all our H-E-B locations.”

H-E-B was among some of the last major retailers to join the trend of digital pay. The technology advancements will allow customers to tap-to-pay with their physical cards and by using their digital wallets at cash registers, self-checkout lanes, and H-E-B brand restaurants and pharmacy locations. Fuel pumps will not be offered at this time, but tap-to-pay can be used at the fuel counter.

H-E-B rolled out tap-to-pay services at its Central Market and Joe V’s Smart Shop stores across Texas earlier this year.
