AUSTIN, Texas — Austin is among the top 10 best cities to live in the U.S., according to a list from the U.S. News & World Report.

The list ranked the 150 Best Places to Live in the U.S. 2024-2025 and Austin — the fourth largest city in Texas — took the No. 9 spot for its casual atmosphere, outdoor activities, live music scene and educational and job opportunities.

“With the slogan 'Keep Austin Weird,' this Texas city is laid-back to the point that if you’re dressing up, it must be a life event. People here enjoy the outdoors, even more so with their dogs. Austin has a contagious vibrancy and enthusiasm,” the report said.

Austin received an overall score of 6.8 out of 10, a quality of life score of 6.8 and a 6.3 for value.

When looking at the entire state, Austin is ranked the No. 1 city to live in Texas.

Other Texas cities that made the list include McAllen (48), El Paso (62), Corpus Christi (77), Brownsville (87), San Antonio (89), Dallas (95), Houston (97), Beaumont (99) and Killeen (107).

U.S. News & World Report ranked each city based on four indexes: quality of life, value, desirability and job market.
