AUSTIN, Texas — With temperatures soaring in Texas, the Paramount Theatre is inviting guests to cool off in the historic venue and enjoy screenings of classic films all summer long.

The theater is celebrating 50 years of its Summer Classic Film Series by presenting a rich lineup of legendary films with themed events and special guests from late May to early September.

To kick off the summer of cinema on Friday, the theater will present a double feature of “Casablanca” and “Top Hat,” the film that launched the series in 1975.

Then, on Saturday, Texas-born filmmaker Robert Rodriguez will be honored with a star on the Avenue of Paramount Stars showcasing Texans who have made contributions to Austin culture through the city’s historic theaters. The ceremony will be followed by a screening of “Sin City” and a Q&A with Rodriguez and Alexis Bledel.

Film themes for the summer include:

  • “Robert Rodriguez Presents,” some of the filmmaker’s favorite films that he will present himself including “Terminator 2: Judgment Day,” “Like Water For Chocolate,” and “Three Amigos”

  • “Is This One…Better?” presents sequels that could be better than the original, including “The Godfather: Part II,” “The Bride of Frankenstein,” and “Evil Dead 2”

  • “LGBTQ+ Cinema,” celebrates Pride Month with classic LGBTQ+ films, including “Paris is Burning,” “Kokomo City,” and “The Color Purple”

  • “Banned Camp,” presents films based on controversial books like “To Kill A Mockingbird,” “I Am Not Your Negro,” and “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest”

  • “The Whole Ensemble” presents films that boast a cast of stars like “Clue,” “Set It Off,” “The Big Lebowski,” and “10 Things I Hate About You”

Admission to any film is $15, or $11 for film club fan members. Kids (12 years old and under) tickets to family screenings are $9. A pack of 10 tickets usable for the entire summer is $90, or $75 for film club fan members.
