Rodriguez has also helped with programming for the 2022 and 2023 series, and he will be back this year to bring some of his favorite films to Austin audiences.

“What a tremendous honor to be receiving from the Paramount Theatre. I've had my best movie experiences there. The audience is always incredible, making movies feel like rock concerts,” Rodriguez said in a Facebook post. “I am humbled by the recognition and thrilled to be so officially associated with my favorite theatre in the world in such an incredible, grand way.”

Rodriguez is known for being hands-on with his filmmaking, often wearing multiple hats when making his projects, and using a grassroots approach when it comes to a budget.

The San Antonio-born filmmaker and UT Austin alum made his film debut with the 1992 Spanish-language action movie "El Mariachi," which cost about $7,000 to make. Rodriguez won the Audience Award for the film at the Sundance Film Festival in 1993.

In 2000, he and his wife, film producer Elizabeth Avellán, founded the production company Troublemaker Studios, helping make Austin into a filmmaking hub.

Rodriguez will be the seventh person to be honored on the Stars Avenue.

Special guests will be announced at a later date for the May 25 unveiling, according to The Paramount.
