AUSTIN, Texas  —  On most days you'll find Joel Ganucheau in his Austin art studio doing what he loves.

"One of my favorite things in the world is to just get lost in the process of painting. It's kind of turning off the outside world and I love that!" said Ganucheau.

He uses layers of paint and even gold leaf to create his artwork. And people are buying it.

"Every time a painting sells, it really kind of gives me hope that I can keep going and keep doing what I love," he said.

Much of his artwork hangs inside the Austin Art Garage. He and his artist friend, Jake Bryer, started the place in 2007.

"Working with emerging artists, that's what we strive to do; to be a catalyst for them and pair them with people who are looking for attainable artwork," said Bryer.

He got the idea for the Art Garage when he was looking to buy his own art. Bryer had $600 in his pocket when he walked inside one of those highbrow galleries.

"Like, if you have to ask, you can't afford it kind of situation," said Bryer.

But that's not the case at the Austin Art Garage. It's an unassuming place where prices vary.

"Not everyone can afford everything, but there's something for everyone," said Bryer.

Every new piece of artwork that comes in is a chance for another artist to show off their talents, often with a price tag that won't break the bank.  For Ganucheau, just being able to paint is priceless.

"I don't think I'll ever quit. It's something that I love to do whether people are buying it or not," he said.
