FORT WORTH, Texas — The heavy rain on Wednesday and Thursday in Fort Worth has led to some sanitary sewer overflows from the Fort Worth collection system. The rainwater enters the system through cracks in the city’s lines or private plumbing lines.

The following streets have affected residences:

  • Sycamore Street
  • S. University Drive
  • Enterprise Avenue
  • Salado Trail
  • Kaltenbrun Road
  • Greenway Park Drive

While the drinking water in Fort Worth is not directly affected by the overflows, residents using private drinking water supply wells within half a mile of the spill site or potentially affected area should only consume water after its been brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute. This includes water usage for cooking, bathing, drinking and tooth brushing. Before discontinuing distillation or boiling, individuals with private water wells should have their well water tested and disinfected.

As for the rest of the public in Fort Worth, people are advised to avoid contact with waste material, soil or water in potentially affected areas. If they do come in contact with the soil or water that is potentially affected by the spill, they should bathe and wash their clothes as soon as possible.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and required elected officials have been notified. Stream water quality sampling will be conducted.
