INDIANAPOLIS – Former University of Texas at San Antonio track coach and veteran national team coach Rose Monday will serve as Team USA’s women’s head track and field coach at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, it was announced Wednesday.
- Coached UTSA 2001 to 2007
- Was assistant coach in 2012 and 2016 Olympic games
- Founded Texas Elite Track Club in Boerne
The San Antonio resident was UTSA’s men’s and women’s head cross country coach and assistant track and field coach from 2001 to 2007.
“I am humbled and honored to serve as the head coach for the 2020 Women’s Olympic Track and Field Team,” said Rose Monday. “I look forward to leading an accomplished staff of coaches who will focus on ensuring that our athletes’ needs are met to eliminate distraction, so they are able to compete at their best and represent the United States of America at the Olympic Games.”
Monday was USATF’s assistant women’s coach for the 2016 and 2012 Olympic Games, managing the women’s middle- and long-distance runners.

She was also the head coach of USATF teams at the 2015 Pan American Games, 2014 and 2015 IAAF World Relays and other international competitions. Monday has served USATF since 1984 in a variety of organizational leadership roles.
The decorated coach is also a decorated athlete as she became a USA National Indoor Champion in the 880-yard race in 1985. She also won the 800-meter World Masters Championship in 2001.
In addition to her individual accomplishments, she is the founder and head coach of Texas Elite Track Club in Boerne and is currently training a small group of Olympic hopefuls.
She has coached athletes who have represented Team USA 16 times in international competition.
