SAN ANTONIO - Focusing on the basics first is the platform District 6 city councilman and challenger Greg Brockhouse is using to convince voters he's fit to be San Antonio's next mayor.

"What we do is we continue to go to the neighborhoods and we talk about what matters most to residents. A couple weeks ago I put out a 51-point action plan," Brockhouse said.

The Action Plan SA is inspired by residents Brockhouse says he's spoken to and includes issues he plans to tackle in the first 90 days as mayor. Issues include lowering property taxes, promoting a pro-business climate policy, increasing transparency at City Hall, addressing transportation issues and reducing crime.

"I'm going to add police officers because we are shorthanded. We are gonna go after a crime focus on the east side and really invest in that community. We'll also do the same thing on the south side," he said.

Before Brockhouse can put more boots on the ground, he needs votes at the polls. A difficult task during what's become a heated race between Brockhouse and incumbent Mayor Ron Nirenberg.

For Brockhouse, he says his opponent is running on a platform of dirty politics.

"I don't have to tear somebody down to become the mayor of San Antonio. I think people should really take note of that," Brockhouse said.

A note Brockhouse hopes voters take into consideration when they go to the polls June 8.
