Nirenberg was first elected in 2017 after defeating incumbent mayor Ivy Taylor in a runoff election.

"We always anticipate a tough fight, if not it would be too easy. And we are ready to continue to fight for progress in San Antonio alongside all the residents who have been volunteering for this campaign," Nirenberg said about the results.

Brockhouse has had the support of the fire and police unions, and he has said there’s a need to add more police officers to city streets.

"I don’t think we need to change anything. I think we keep taking the same message and we don’t alter or move on that. I think if we try to change or reinvent ourselves in the next 30 days.. what's gotten us here we need to carry forward,” Brockhouse said about the runoff.
