SAN ANTONIO - It's been more than two weeks since the search for Andreen McDonald began and while authorities are no longer hosting public searches, volunteers from the community are still going out on their own.

  • Volunteers continued to search for missing woman Sunday
  • Andreen McDonald missing for more than 2 weeks
  • Sunday marked 7th search party organized by Malinda Pennell

On Sunday, about 15 volunteers from the Where is Andreen McDonald? Facebook page joined Malinda Pennell on the city's North Side.

"It just doesn't hurt to get back out there, get new eyes and ears on the ground and just try and help," Pennell said.

Among the volunteers was a furry four-legged member named Savage.

"She can smell anything that's abnormal," said Laurie Gawelko, her owner.

Gawelko said she was driving home from church when she saw the group gathering along side the road. Feeling compelled to join, she went home and grabbed her search dog.

"We canvassed through a lot of woods," she said.

Though they didn't find anything, Gawelko said she is just happy to help out on her first search effort.

"[Savage] is like, 'No I gotta work, I gotta work,'" Gawelko said.

This is the seventh search party Pennell's organized. She hopes to pick up where they left off on Tuesday.

"It's overwhelming. It's like the more we search the more areas we find to search," she said.
