Abigail Vaerewyck is a multimedia journalist for Spectrum News 1 Texas. Born and raised in the DFW metroplex, Abigail started her journalism career in high school where she worked on her school’s weekly broadcast and completed a mentorship program with Kevin Reece at DFW’s ABC affiliate, WFAA.
A graduate of Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, during her academic career she worked as reporter, anchor, and weather forecaster for the Cronkite News on Arizona PBS and completed an internship with the Phoenix station, PHX-TV.
In 2021, Abigail relocated to Reno, Nevada as a multimedia journalist for NBC and Fox affiliate KRNV/KRXI. During her tenure in the Sierra-Nevada area, she covered the 2021 record-breaking wildfires and state political campaigns and rallies, as well as many local community interest stories.
Abigail loves to find creative ways to tell stories about the communities where she lives. When not working on stories, Abigail loves to explore the outdoors by hiking, roller skating, and walking her rescue dog, Sierra.
