It’s been a toasty start to the summer, and the hottest part of the year is still to come for most of the state.

What You Need To Know

  • With widespread drought conditions, it’s been a very hot start to the summer

  • The hottest part of the year, or summer, varies across the state

  • For many areas, the hottest part of the year is late July into August

For many in the Lone Star State, it felt like summer started in May as the triple digit heat arrived early. Even with the lack of rainfall, the above average temperatures and 100 degree weather, the hottest part of the year is still ahead of us.

The summer climate outlook from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration shows likely warmer than average temperatures across the state, and likely drier than average for most outside of the Gulf Coast and El Paso.

Why? This time of year typically brings more moisture to these areas because of the tropics and the monsoon.

So when does the hottest part of the year arrive in your part of the state? It varies, but for most of us it’s late July into August.
