AUSTIN, Texas — Quinn Ewers better watch out for his position as Arch Manning is coming for his starting job in an open quarterback battle during Texas’ spring camp, according to CBS Sports.
The matchup between the two former 5-star recruits will be one of the most high-profile battles in recent years.
The situation comes full circle as a battle between current QB Quinn Ewers and veteran Hudson Card last year is just how Ewers claimed the starting position he has now.
After defeating Card for his job, Ewers has worked hard on the field to demonstrate that he belongs. A top recruit out of Southlake Carroll and a transfer from Ohio State, he won Big 12 Newcomer of the Year honors and completed 58% of his passes for 2,177 yards.
Manning arrived in Austin with a powerful football bloodline backing him and is one of the most high-profile recruits in years. He is the nephew of former pro-football players Eli and Peyton Manning, the grandson of Archie Manning and the son of Cooper Manning. Arch Manning was the first freshmen quarterback to start at Isidore Newman High School in New Orleans and has been considered a top prospect since middle school. He even enrolled early in the spring semester of 2023 to get a head start on his time at Texas.
Redshirt freshman Maalik Murphy will also compete in the battle, but he is still working through his ankle injury sustained from high school.
