The president is visiting the LBJ Presidential Library to honor the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act.

Biden will be visiting three cities in three days. It will begin in Austin, then proceed to Las Vegas, where he will be a speaker at the 115th NAACP National Convention on July 16, and the following day, he will address the UnidosUS annual conference.

Biden’s visit to Austin overlaps with the start of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

The visit follows criticisms of Biden's June 27 debate performance against former President Donald Trump and concerns about his age and mental fitness. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Austin was the first Democrat in Congress to publicly call for Biden to step down from the running for president.

Texas native and former President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act into law on July 2, 1964, which prohibited discrimination and provided for the integration of public schools and facilities.
