AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Longhorns and Notre Dame Fighting Irish announced a home-and-home football series on Tuesday. The two teams will face off in both 2028 and 2029.

On Saturday, Sept. 9, 2028, the Longhorns will travel to South Bend, Ind., and on Saturday, Sept. 22 of the following year, the Fighting Irish will visit Darrell K Royal Memorial Stadium in Austin.

Both the Longhorns and the Fighting Irish are ranked No. 4 on the NCAA all-time win list with 956 victories each and have 15 combined national championship titles.

The two football programs have not met since 2016 when the Longhorns pulled off a 50-47 double-overtime win, but the historic matchup dates all the way back to 1913. Notre Dame holds a 9-3 all-time record against the Longhorns.

Before Texas’ latest win over the Fighting Irish in 2016, Notre Dame had beaten the Longhorns five consecutive times, including a 38-3 blowout victory at Notre Dame Stadium in 2015.

While Texas and the Fighting Irish are not scheduled to match up against each other before 2028, it is possible for them to meet in the College Football Playoffs or a bowl game before then.

The No. 6 Fighting Irish suffered their only loss this season, 16-14, against Northern Illinois in week two, but have recorded eight-consecutive victories since then.

In its first season in the SEC, the No. 3 Longhorns have tallied a 9-1 record so far, only falling to the Georgia Bulldogs, 30-15, on Oct. 19.
