AUSTIN, Texas — Austin City Manager T.C. Broadnax has announced in a news release that he has extended the timeline for selecting the next police chief as he has not yet decided between the two finalists.

Earlier this month, the two finalists for the position were narrowed down to Jeffrey Norman, the current chief of police in Milwaukee, and Lisa Davis, the assistant police chief in Cincinnati.

Broadnax had planned to select the finalist on Friday. City Council was scheduled to give approval to the finalist in a special called meeting on July 30.

“This position is too critical to our Police Department, the City organization as a whole, and this community to rush,” Broadnax said. “Therefore, I’m going to take additional time to consider our two very qualified candidates before making a final decision.”

While Broadnax has said that he would take additional time to choose the next police chief, he did not indicate when that decision would be finalized.
