AUSTIN, Texas — The City Council of Austin has selected its top candidates for the position of city manager on Tuesday. 

The top three candidates are: T.C. Broadnax of Dallas, Texas, Sara Hensley of Denton, Texas, and Brian Platt of Kansas City, Missouri.

On March 25, meetings will be held between the candidates and professional city staff. In addition, they will be taking part in a community town hall that evening. The town hall’s location is still under consideration.

Candidate interviews by the mayor and council will take place on Tuesday, March 26.

Mayor Kirk Watson’s office has said that they anticipate they will vote to direct their search firm to negotiate a contract with a specific person on April 2.

T.C. Broadnax, who has been the city manager of Dallas for the past seven years, recently decided to step down, as stated on the City of Dallas’ website. According to documents from the Dallas City Council, his last day will be on June 3.

Brian Platt has been the city manager in Kansas City for slightly over three years, beginning in December 2020 amidst the pandemic. His biography on the Kansas City website reveals that he formerly held the position of city manager in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Sara Hensley has been with the City of Denton since 2019 and was appointed as the first female city manager in March 2022. She previously served in different leadership capacities, including deputy city manager and interim city manager.
