TEXAS — According to a new study by WalletHub, in 2024, the Lone Star state is the fifth worst state for women to live in.

When it comes to how women can provide for and take care of themselves, WalletHub looked at the median earning for female workers and found that Texas came in at the No. 19 spot.

While making a living for yourself in Texas isn’t terribly difficult, the study ranked the state in the 44th spot for the unemployment rate for women.

Texas ranked slightly higher for the percentage of women living in poverty. Texas landed at No. 40. 

Women’s health care in Texas has been a huge topic of debate, even more so since the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, leading to the banning of abortions in Texas.

Texas was ranked 41st for women’s preventative health care.

Preventative health care includes STD/STI testing, birth control, Hepatitis B screening for pregnant women, breastfeeding support and counseling, maternal depression screening for mothers and preeclampsia prevention and screening, according to HealthCare.gov. 

The quality of women’s hospitals in Texas landed the state at the 23 spot. 

Women’s life expectancy from birth in Texas only puts Texas at the 31st spot.

Texas' overall score was a 39.59, ranking the state at the 47th position out of 51 states to live in for women.

Massachusetts landed at the No. 1 spot.
