HOUSTON — The 7-year-old boy who was shot in the attack carried out by his mother at Lakewood Church in Houston is now breathing on his own, according to a social media post made by his grandmother on Facebook.
The boy's grandmother, Walli Carranza, reported that he was extubated 13 days after the incident and is currently breathing without any issues.
Despite being off the ventilator, Carranza has encountered additional complications that might necessitate another neurosurgical procedure. The boy, who was struck in the head by two bullets, will be undergoing his sixth neurosurgery.
According to Houston Police, Genesse Moreno entered the church around 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 11, accompanied by her 7-year-old son. With a rifle in hand, she opened fire in the hallway. She was approached by two off-duty law enforcement officers who fired back and killed her.
