TEXAS — Texas' power grid survived the freezing temperatures and increased demand that came with the winter storm that moved into Texas Sunday night into Monday morning.
Now, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT, is calling on Texans to conserve power for a few hours on Tuesday morning.
"With the winter storm encompassing the entire state and temperatures forecasted to be colder this evening and into tomorrow morning, ERCOT is asking Texans to conserve electricity use, if safe to do so, Tuesday, January 16, from 6 a.m. – 9 a.m. CT. ERCOT is forecasting higher demand tomorrow morning as Texans return to work and schools reopen," the agency wrote.
ERCOT said Tuesday's appeal for conservation does not mean it expects emergency conditions. Still, conditions can change.
ERCOT said increased power demand will be likely on Wednesday morning as well.
