AUSTIN, Texas. — The Austin Mac and Grilled Cheese Festival offers an unlimited feast on Nov. 19 to celebrate American cheese. Local chefs will round up their most famous recipes to determine which is the cheesiest of them all.
The all-you-can-eat extravaganza will showcase southern cuisine from Black's Barbecue, TLC Austin and Donn's BBQ. It’s the first year where grilled cheeses will take part in the competition, so expect some brisket-loaded sandwiches to pair with bowls of mac.
The Lantana Place Shopping Center will host the event outdoors from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Festivalgoers get to vote in both categories for their favorite dish and the best sandwich. The winner will take home bragging rights for life.
Last year's winner, chef Danny Kievit, stirred up a mushroom Swiss burger mac and cheese with Ritz cracker dust and Infamous Brewing beer cheese. Kievit will be back this year to defend his cheese king throne.
General admission tickets are $50 and include all food and drink for the event. Child tickets are also available for $25 each. For more information, visit the event's website.
