AUSTIN, Texas — For the last 17 years, Texas state Rep. Donna Howard, D-Austin, has represented House District 48. Monday she released a statement that she’d be vying for reelection.
“I am proud of the work that we have been able to accomplish together, and with your support, hope to continue as your voice at the Capitol.”
A fierce advocate for women’s health, Howard has supported to increase funding and access to women’s health services, addressed anti-abortion misinformation and expanded national awareness of Texas’ women’s health policy.
She serves as the chairwoman of the Texas Women’s Health Caucus, which is the largest caucus in the country that has put the advancement of women’s health policy as the focal point.
Howard is also vice-chair of the Select Committee on Health Care Reform, is a member of the House Appropriations Committee and the Higher Education Committee.
In March, Howard filed a proposal to remove sales tax on diapers, baby wipes and bottles; menstrual supplies including tampons, sanitary pads and menstrual cups; maternity clothing; and products for pumping breast milk. It was passed during the 88th legislative session.
“If re-elected, I will continue to use my understanding of the budget process and will work collaboratively with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to represent House District 48’s values of health families, equal opportunity and responsible government,” Howard assured.
