AUSTIN, Texas — Tesla head, billionaire and new Twitter CEO Elon Musk has been the subject of a great deal of criticism lately, mostly centered on the shakeups at the popular social media platform following his recent acquisition. However, he has his admirers.
In fact, some of his most ardent fans in Texas created a $600,000 statue in his honor.
The enormous statue depicts Musk as half goat and half man and was delivered to Tesla’s headquarters in Austin. The group behind it, Elon Goat Token, is comprised of cryptocurrency entrepreneurs. Their reason for building this 12,000-pound metal sculpture was to promote their crypto coin while showing their admiration for Musk.
An EGT Instagram post reads, “The monument of ELON’s head on the body of a GOAT that’s riding a rocket has gotten media attention around the world, but really we just want to meet the guy and give it to him. After all, he is the most innovative human alive, hence the GOAT—Greatest of all time!”
As an act to express their appreciation for what Musk has done for cryptocurrency and his SpaceX accomplishments, they put together an event called “GOATSgiving” on Saturday. The plan was to present the GOAT monument to him and have him accept it. They hoped Musk’s public “claiming” of the token would bring more credibility to their work as a team.
A sizeable crowd came out to the event to witness Musk’s acceptance of the statue, but he didn’t show. And he has yet to comment on the gift as of Tuesday.
With the amount of buzz EGT’s Elon GOAT has caused, it’s likely Musk has seen it in passing. Either way, EGT is lapping up the virality of their antics.
