AUSTIN, Texas — Although Austin, Texas, is nowhere near a coast, an opportunity to catch some waves may be coming to the city.
A development company called Surf Lakes has signed an exclusive territory agreement with the City of Austin, with the intention of constructing what is called a Surf Lake in the near future. The proposed project would be a 400-acre “Pura Vida” community that would create a beach experience with a 12-acre Surf Lake at its center. The community, which will be a mix of retail and residency, will include a boardwalk, sandy beach, hotels, restaurants and more.
If the project comes to fruition, this will be the largest Surf Park to date. The purchased territory is located south of the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, just 15 minutes away from Elon Musk’s new Tesla Gigafactory and 20 minutes from downtown.
Groundbreaking on the project could begin as early as mid-2023.
Created in 2016, Surf Lakes provides technologically advanced wave-generating devices and designs to bring wave park projects to life.
