MANOR, Texas — Senior Quinten Joyner’s legs have carried him to one of the best careers a high school running back could ask for.
The Manor star is embracing the attention he’s getting from powerhouse Division I programs. Joyner has verbally committed to the University of Southern California, but generated interest from the likes of Arkansas, Cincinnati and Houston.
“I really didn’t know I was that good till I was running the football and Coach Keller was telling all these coaches about me,” Joyner said. “I just wanted to ball. Go out there and have fun.”
And he did. Joyner rushed for 2,984 yards and 31 touchdowns last season, making it over 3,000 for his career. He credits his running style for the success carrying the ball.
“I feel like I can break tackles, make you miss, run through you,” Joyner said. “I got that little quickness, get away speed to go score for long touchdowns.”
The Mustangs are hoping Joyner can lead on playoff run like another onetime Manor standout running back, Tahj Brooks. Joyner doesn’t have to do it alone either. He will share the backfield with his younger brother, Quintaelyn Joyner, behind an experienced offensive line.
“We got my little brother and he can zip it, so you can’t just key in on me,” Joyner emphasized. “The last time I played with my brother we were in flag. Now it’s time to do the same thing, because we won a championship. Now it’s time to win a championship playing together our last year.”
Manor kicks off the 2022-23 campaign by hosting rival Austin LBJ Friday Aug. 26 at 7:30 p.m.
