AUSTIN, Texas — Austin Animal Center is waiving all adoption fees until further notice. The center has more than 1,000 dogs and cats in its care, with 671 pets at the shelter. Currently, 23 dogs do not have a kennel.
“We are housing dogs in crates in our conference room and we even rented an air-conditioned construction trailer to put crates in,” said Kelsey Cler, marketing and communication manager for Austin Animal Center. “Unfortunately all of those spaces are now full and our only option is to house dogs in crates outside in front of evaporation coolers.”
The center is open for adoptions Monday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you are not ready to adopt, there are also fostering options available.
Austin Animal Center will also be hosting events this summer to help out with the space crisis.
Some of those include:
Adopt Late Night – The shelter will be open until 9 p.m. on June 24 for adoptions and a glow stick party.
KittyPalooza – This annual event will have 30 kittens available for adoption on June 25 starting at 8 am.
Microchip & Rabies Vaccine Clinic – The shelter is holding a microchip & rabies vaccine clinic for Travis County residents on July 2 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
