AUSTIN, Texas — A rising star in the world of competitive cycling was the victim of an apparent homicide in East Austin.

Moriah Wilson, 25, was found bleeding and unconscious by a friend at a house located Maple Avenue, according to Austin Police Department.

Police received a call on May 11 around a little before 10 p.m. When officers arrived, they discovered Wilson had been shot multiple times. She was pronounced dead at 10:10 p.m.

The investigation showed that Wilson was shot inside the home. Police have not yet identified a person of interest but say this shooting does not seem to be a random act and there is no reason to suspect any threat to the public.

Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to call APD Homicide at 512-974-TIPS or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 512-472-8477. This case marks Austin’s 27th homicide this year.

According to Outside magazine, Wilson had traveled to Texas to compete in the Gravel Locos race on May 14. Racers of Gravel Locos staged a memorial for Wilson in Hico, Texas, on Saturday, holding a moment of silence for her.
