AUSTIN, Texas — Urban residential and commercial community developer StoryBuilt announced this week it is building 42 micro units on South First Street in Austin.

The project, called Bruno, will bring 38 studio units and four one-bedroom units for rent to 2001 South First. The average unit size will be 411 square feet, with units ranging between 308 to 703 square feet.

“Bruno is one of only a handful of micro unit developments in Austin and the only one in South Austin with such proximity to downtown,” said Ross Wilson, Austin and San Antonio division president of StoryBuilt. “The South First Street corridor, and Bouldin Creek Neighborhood as a whole, are becoming more walkable and connected every day with new commercial and retail uses popping up regularly. The smaller unit type we are building at Bruno is an attractive option for the urban dweller that values a vibrant neighborhood and access to the city around them. “

Construction begins at the end of April and the community is slated to be finished by the second quarter of 2023.

“While we are waiting to announce formal pricing until closer to completion, our aim is to provide attainably priced housing close to downtown, and the type of units we develop play crucial a role in that,” said Wilson. “Additionally, Bruno will include 4 affordable units that will be leased to tenants making 50% or less of the average median family income.”

This will be the fourth project announced by StoryBuilt’s on South First. The developer names its communities after rescue pets or employees’ pets. Bruno was a stray dog that followed an architect back to the office one day. After no owner came forward, the employee took Bruno home and adopted him.

StoryBuilt will also be starting pre-sales for its community Ellie May on Springdale Road early May.
